some good tips, but not for everyone

I picked up some good tips from this book. I needed to claim my house back from layers of clutter, and this helped me mobilize and get motivated to get it done. I needed a book to help me figure out how to clean in steps and keep it clean, and this book helped me put words to what I wanted to do in my home.
However, I got bogged down in the author's "Magical Floor Planning" and finding power areas in the home. A large part of this is based on feng shui like teachings, so if you like feng shui, it's the book for you. While the "Magical Floor Planning" part of the book wasn't very helpful to me, I could see how it could be good for other people.
Also some of the rituals seem impracticle to me (the petals of 40 white roses are used in one ritual, which I simply can't afford), but not all of them are that extreme or expensive. Even though it's a little harsh to say, I can't see myself using half the rituals in this book, but it got me started about rituals I could do.
If you are new to the magical path, I would recomend this book. It has a lot of Witchy 101 info, and most of us need some help combating clutter. If you're a seasoned witch (unless you need some starter tips on magically cleaning your home), I would recomend you look for another book or borrow this one from a friend or your local library.

A holistic approach to de-cluttering

I found this book a delight to read. Beyond the simple charms and practical tips that the title promises, this book also provides the reader with plenty of inspiration as well as permission to let go of all sorts of clutter. The author goes beyond just the physical manifestations of collected clutter and gets to the subtler/root layers behind the emotions and behaviors that keep one's body, home, and life stuffed with junk. She addresses what we might already know but have not been able to admit to ourselves. For example, that the temporary feeling of guilt we might have to face when letting go of a gift we received and didn't like is better than the feeling we endure day in and day out of having to see it in our environment and not enjoy it. The author draws from her own personal path and experiences which includes Feng Shui, magic, and raw food to inform the reader while simultaneously empowering her audience to reach for and seek out the tools and traditions that will inspire and resonate with them personally. After reading this book I gave myself permission to let go - the result has been more space to live each day more magically. Highly recommended!

Practical, Fun, Engaging

This is magic that is accessible for all. Tess takes complex ideas and makes them simple and doable for just about anyone. I've had the pleasure of seeing her speak in person at a small bookstore and we got to talk to her quite a bit. She's even lovelier in person and seems very sincere in her desire to help people by sharing her experience in this area. Along the way she also shares amusing personal anecdotes. I'd been wanting to read the book for awhile and seeing her made me actually pick it up and do it. I live in a situation with three other people in my house and not everyone is on board with this (YET!) but one of my roommates is. We can only do pockets of space, of course, since we share, but the rooms we've been able to do are wonderful. Tess says when you have roommates you can use the grid in your personal space and don't have to do it for the whole house, so we've done exactly that. We have cleared clutter and then cleared more. We swept, mopped, dusted, vacuumed and placed items back thoughtfully. We've had a lot of fun cleaning and clearing, weirdly enough and it has been the strange combination of fun mixed with hopeful sacredness in decorating - loving it! We even were able to take the one car garage and turn it into a workshop with art supplies, craft supplies, beads, fabric, and my sewing machine (easily accessible to me for the first time)and we are decorating it according to the grid...are calling it The Dream Factory. We plan on making vision boards on New Year's Day, and inviting our friends to take part (Of course you don't know me but trust me, having the space to do this as well as the interest and energy to entertain is magical in itself!) Tess gives us permission to get rid of all the stuff you've been hanging on to, more permission to care about yourself to the point where you know you deserve to have a beautiful space (Not that you have to spend a lot of money doing it either!) I have done my own bedroom according to the grid and for the first time in my forty one years I actually am completely satisfied with the way my bedroom looks. I feel more calm, peaceful and energized. I now get Tess's Good Energy Newsletter and apparently a new book is in the works...will absolutely get buy that one too!
